Valuations of Early-Stage Companies and Disruptive Technologies
A practical and academic treatment of valuation when young companies, uncertainty and disruptive technologies make conventional approaches difficult to apply.
Dr. Tiran Rothman
Economist, Investor & Behavioral Finance Researcher
I work at the intersection of financial markets, capital allocation, valuation, complex systems and human decision making — combining research with practical work in investment, advisory and board-level decisions.

A plan that is mathematically optimal but behaviorally impossible is not a good plan. Sustainable systems are designed around the way people actually make decisions.
From the behavioral finance guideWhat I do
Startup evaluation, fundraising strategy, valuation, investment structuring and work with founders and investors across growth stages.
Board-level contribution combining finance, strategy, capital allocation, governance and decision making.
Valuation, financial modelling, complex economic analysis and expert opinions for transactions, strategy and legal disputes.
Behavioral economics, financial freedom, investor psychology, valuation and the evolution of financial systems.

Try it
A fair coin is flipped once. Decide whether you would play. Most people refuse a bet until the possible gain is well above the possible loss — even when the odds are exactly even.
The idea is explored in the behavioral finance guide.
Research & ideas
My research focuses on the interaction between institutions, trading strategies and human behavior in complex financial systems. I am particularly interested in how markets retain, lose and rebuild knowledge, and when these processes are better understood as system-level adaptation rather than simply the accumulation of individual choices.

Lectures & keynotes
Why do intelligent people make choices they later regret? This talk uses framing, social influence, reference points, overconfidence and attention to show how behavioral economics appears in ordinary decisions — from pricing and negotiation to consumption and career choices.
Financial freedom is not only an investment problem. It is a problem of time, consumption, identity and behavior. The lecture develops a practical framework for thinking about how money can buy optionality and time, why lifestyle inflation is powerful, and how decision systems can matter more than isolated financial tips.
Markets create an unusually demanding environment for decision making: outcomes are noisy, feedback is delayed and social information is everywhere. This talk explores herd behavior, fear of missing out, loss sensitivity, overconfidence and narrative thinking — and then translates those ideas into portfolio and decision rules.
Media & appearances
Long-form discussion of investor psychology, bubbles, herd behavior and decision making under uncertainty.
